Frequently Asked Questions

Network installation
Due to additional security concepts for modern Windows applications, running programs directly from a network sharing or network storage is not possible.
In order to prevent that malicious programs are distributed over the network, extended security settings are required for trustworthy programs.
The FluidDraw setup can optionally make these settings. In this case it is necessary to run the "Client Installation" on each PC from which FluidDraw should be started as non-local installation.
Proceed thereby as follows:

1.     Run the "Server Installation" and install FluidDraw in a location, where the Client PCs have got read permissions.

2.     Run the "Client Installation" on each workstation and leave the option to set the required execution rights selected.

Note: With the "Client Installation" no files are copied on the local hard disk, but only a link to the network drive is created. This means in particular that later program updates only have to be installed on the server, while no special action on the individual workstations is necessary.

Windows Vista / Windows 7
Like the previous FluidDraw version, also the version 5 of FluidDraw runs on Windows Vista and Windows 7 without restrictions.

64 Bit compatibility
Like the previous FluidDraw version, also the latest FluidDraw version is running on 64 bit Windows without restrictions.
Since FluidDraw still is a 32 bit application, the advantage consists only of the fact that the operating system can handle more main memory.
Internal tests turned out that a 64 bit FluidDraw allocates more memory, but does not offer any advantages.

Multiprocessor systems
In contrast to previous versions, FluidDraw 5 takes profit from a second processor, since many operations are performed in the background.
If there is more than one CPU, the work feels smoother with large circuit diagrams and extensive projects.
However, FluidDraw does not take advantage of more than four CPUs.

Festo product catalog
FluidDraw 5 comes with a reduced database of the Festo product catalog. All product part numbers can be used from the appropriate functions in FluidDraw, even if the Festo product catalog is not installed.
However, in order to be up to date and to have access to all the features of the Festo product catalog, it is strongly recommended to install it anyway.
If FluidDraw detects a newer Festo product catalog, the data of this one will be used instead of those of the database extract provided with FluidDraw.
